Commonwealth Day 2022
Monday 14th March 2022 marked Commonwealth Day; the annual event that celebrates the 54 members of the Commonwealth. The theme for Commonwealth Day 2022 centred around the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting – 'Delivering a Common Future'.
In London, commemorations began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Commonwealth Memorial Gates, an annual ceremony to honour those that volunteered to serve with the Armed Forces during the two World Wars.
A Commonwealth Day service then took place at Westminster Abbey. The service was attended by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Guests at the service also included senior politicians, High Commissioners, Ambassadors, and dignitaries from across the UK and Commonwealth.
The day’s celebrations ended with a reception held at Marlborough House, the Commonwealth Secretariat’s headquarters in London. Guests at the reception celebrated the work of the Commonwealth and were treated to entertainment from Rwanda, Cyprus, Pakistan, and the Caribbean.
