First virtual CATA Technical Conference held

 
 

CATA’s 41st Technical Conference took place from 9th to 11th November 2021. The conference was scheduled to be held in Nicosia, Cyprus. However, due to the number of coronavirus cases continuing to rise, the event was held in a virtual format instead, making the 2021 edition of the CATA Technical Conference the first of its kind to be held virtually.

The conference theme was ‘Simplified and efficient tax systems’, with the speakers discussing the following three topics: 1. Simplified tax systems, 2. Performance and benchmarking of tax administrations, and 3. Lessons learnt from COVID-19. The keynote address was delivered by Mr Pascal Saint-Amans, Director of the Center for Tax Policy and Administration, Organisation for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD) and the conference featured speakers from the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, India; the OECD; Office of Tax Simplification, UK; WU Global Tax Policy Center; Income Tax Department, India; Mauritius Revenue Authority; Data Tech International; Barbados Revenue Authority; Canada Revenue Agency; Kenya Revenue Authority; the TADAT Secretariat; Uganda Revenue Authority; International Monetary Fund Fiscal Affairs Department; Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia; and Office for the Commissioner of Revenue, Malta.

Over 150 participants from 36 countries registered for the event, including delegates from CATA member countries, tax administrations from non-CATA member countries, NGOs, academia, and the private sector.
